Prizes and Awards

During James’s horticultural career he became a successful exhibitor and horticulturalists and this lead to him being the recipient of several prizes. Most of these are associated with his exhibiting, but one is linked to a new variety of potato he introduced.

  • Sir Joseph Banks B.P.R.S, Born 1743 Died 1820, The Royal Horticultural Society, Medal “Awarded to James Lye at the Bath Horticultural Show for nine fuchsias, Sept. 1878”. (for those with a keen eye will spot the engravers spelling error, which I have corrected in the transcription above). This medal is held by the Market Lavington Museum
